Is God going to display my most secret sins on a heavenly screen for all the world to see? What if I stand before God on the day of judgment and find that I didn’t quite have enough faith to make it to heaven? Will I be rejected because I committed the unpardonable sin. Many questions like these are asked by Christians who are unnecessarily confused and terrified about the Judgment Seat of Christ.
All Christians Will Be Judged
2 Corinthians 5:10 says, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.” This judgment is distinct from the Great White Throne judgment which takes place at the end of the world (Revelation 20:11). The Great White Throne judgment is a judgment of condemnation at which all who are not “written in the Lamb’s book of life,” are cast into the lake of fire.
Crowns and Rewards
Christians will not appear at the Great White Throne judgment, but they will stand before the judgment seat of Christ to receive rewards (1 Cor. 3:14) and crowns (1 Cor. 9:24-27). These rewards are based on the amount and quality of their work for the Lord. Judgment of sin is not involved in any way at the Judgment Seat of Christ. Christ paid for your sins once and for all on the Cross. “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1). Sins under the blood of Jesus Christ will never be brought up again. Still the judgment seat of Christ will be a sad time for many who will miss out on rewards or see their works vanish in smoke because of wrong motivations.
Happy will be the ones who persevere and serve the Lord faithfully with a pure heart. They “will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him” (James 1:12).
